daemonmuses Fantasies
Oct. 11th, 2008 11:47 amThe thing that makes a fantasy great is the possibility it might come true. And when you lose that possibility it just... kinda... sucks.

I have a dream.
Well, no okay that's cliche and it sounds kind of stupid, but it's there and it's a very real dream. Gotham City where people can walk the streets without fear.
Where kids can have daemons that aren't the biggest and the baddest around and that's okay. Where assault isn't a regular problem and where people can live their lives without looking over their shoulder.
It was that which lead me to consider running for District Attorney, leaving private law for Gotham City's Courthouse to become it's very...very public face. Look, I'm sure you've seen the ads right? Justica curled up beside me. They wanted to replace her with an eagle-I turned them down.
Because you know, as much as I approve of the idea of doing things for political gain, the voters aren't electing me because of my looks. (You can step up and agree anytime now Justica) they were voting for me. Size only matters if it matters to you.
I think people can respect that.
I had this dream and it's almost a reality and then everything falls apart.
And I keep coming back to that PR guy who said he wanted to impose an eagle over Justica. Encourage people that I was patriotic. Fantasies only come true if you make them come true.
There can't be a downside. I believed that in my campaign and I believe it now. Loosing the possibility means that you create new ones. It doesn't mean that you give up! I still have that dream. we still have that dream.
We'll just have to be a little more creative about achieving those ends is all.

SECURITY NOTE
Sep. 12th, 2008 03:49 pmTo whomever this may concern:
While I'm aware that you are neutral and therefore not in any particular jurisdiction save your own I have a number of concerns regarding someone I think might have visited your establishment.
This person is a wanted criminal in Gotham City, guilty of robbery, homocide and numerous other atrocities. I'm a lawyer, I don't use that word lightly.
In any case, I suppose I'd like...reassurance that he's not here and to warn you if he is. This man is a criminal, he's not to be trusted and he's working for Sal Maroni-guy who makes Tony Soprano look like an idiot.
I'm probably overreacting but things have been tense in Gotham City and the man's bodycount is rather high. I'd like to hear from you folks at your earliest convienence, there's no particular rush on it. I understand and respect what you're trying to do here- one of the reasons I don't want anyone from my world screwing it up.
...This is going to sound ridiculous, but the bar seems to know who I am and where I'm from so...I guess I'll leave contacting me in your hands? (By the way, Great idea. Saves money on labor hours having that...teleporting type thing).
Thank you for your time, Regards:
Harvey James Dent, Attorney-at-Law Gotham City New York,
District Attorney.

Divine Comedy 04
Sep. 3rd, 2008 05:54 pmCelebrity is a mask that eats into the face. As soon as one is aware of being "somebody," to be watched and listened to with extra interest, input ceases, and the performer goes blind and deaf in his overanimation. One can either see or be seen.
-John Updike, Self-Consciousness: Memoirs, ch. 6, 1989
"Nobody controls me. I'm uncontrollable. The only one who can control me is me, and that's just barely possible. And that's the lesson I'm learning. If someone's going to impress me, whether it be a Maharishi or a Yoko, then there comes a point where the emperor has no clothes 'cause I'm naive, but I'm not stupid. For all you folks out there who think I'm having the wool pulled over my eyes, well, that's an insult to me. But if you think you know me, or you have some part of me because of the music, and then you think I'm being controlled like a dog on a leash because I do things with her, then screw you, brother or sister, you don't know what's happening."
- John Lennon

Divine Comedy 03
Sep. 3rd, 2008 05:18 pmIf the government becomes a law breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. To declare that in the administration of the criminal law the end justifies the means 'to declare that the government may commit crimes in order to secure the conviction of a private criminal' would bring terrible retribution.
